D.I.Y Glam Gold wall art

It’s been a while since I last did a post, but I’m back now and hopefully, the posts will be more regular. We have had lots of exciting things happening while I’ve been away from blogland.

I have posted a video on my You Tube channel of a D.I.Y. Glam Gold leaf wall art tutorial I did recently.

The client is a very stylish 12yr old girl and I’m very pleased to tell you that she loves it ! ….. phew.

I have an old school OHP Overhead Projector that I purchased on eBay many years ago so I choose a silhouette of a pair of lips and printed in on acetate ( the clear paper for the printer) I purchased the acatate from Staples but you get it on Amazon and Ebay too.

The rest of the supplies were

  • Gold size/adhesive
  • A small artist brush
  • Gold leaf ( bought from Amazon )
  • A fluffy blusher brush.

I projected the image onto the wall and carefully painted on the gold adhesive when the glue had come to tack I applied the Gold leaf. When the entire surface was covered I used the blusher brush to gently brush off the excess leaf.

Hope you like it, leave a comment and let me know.

Mae sure you subscribe to my channel for my newest projects.

I had a couple of good quality bedsides in my stash and thought it was time for a quick makeover. They were solid and a good classic shape but very dark and sad. The wood was in good condition, so I decided to strip the top. I used an old brush and liberally applied the stripper to the top. The brand I used was Polycell and it hasn’t failed me yet, also I like the smell …. it smells like marzipan ! For health safety and common sense reasons, please don’t sniff the stripper! use in a well-ventilated area.

It only took about 20 minutes for the finish to bubble and peel, I then scraped it off and put the goo in an old paint can which I keep for this purpose. I cleaned the entire piece and once dry gave it a coat of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in a custom mix. The colour was a very pale Linen/beige and was made up with one part French Linen and four parts Original.

I gave it another coat of paint and stained the top with Java Gel Stain which is made by General Finishes, it’s a dark stain but the top had come up fairly light from the stripping so I didn’t leave it on too long before I wiped it off

All finished.

All finished.

gel Stained furniture

Gel Stains

It’s been a busy couple of weeks at the shop, new stock in and out and lots of commission painting has been done. Although I love to paint I also love to refinish wood, and one of my favorite wood treatments is Gel stains, they are thick in consistency so don’t run or drip and are easy to use.

Home Office

Home Office

Running a small business is no easy task, but one of the areas which I don’t excel in is organization! The amount of paperwork which is required to keep the machine going is huge. So a designated area was needed for my overflowing inbox. I don’t have a spare room but I do have a large kitchen so after a little re-arranging I managed to clear an entire wall at the end of the room. I then went trawling for inspiration in the usual places and found some great ideas like this one on Pinterest.

Confessions and Crafts

I have a confession to make ….. like lots of people I am a bit of a hoarder (massive understatement), and I was going through my linen cupboard the other day and came across all my children’s baby blankets!

I didn’t want to throw them away so decided I should make something with them. Now I’m not really a crafty person as such but after much deliberation and thought ( a visit to Pinterest) I decided to try a rag rug.

I like things that give me instant gratification ( another confession ) so this was perfect, quick easy, and pretty.

I cut the blankets into rough 6inch by 1inch lengths with pinking scissors and poked (TECHNICAL TERM) through a piece of hessian and tied a knot! before I started used a felt tip pen to draw a pattern and followed the lines …..easy peasy.

This is what I ended up with how pretty is that?
Confessions and crafts pillow

It’s easy to wash and my grandson uses it to play on, all in all, I’m glad I didn’t trow them away.
