Milk Paint is an ancient a natural paint containing five all-natural ingredients – milk protein (casein), limestone, clay, chalk and natural pigments. When absorbed into the surface, Milk Paint will never chip or peel when applied to a raw wood surface. It is suitable for both interior and exterior applications and is naturally mold resistant. Milk paint provides a completely breathable coating and is ideal for painting wood, plaster, drywall and a variety of other surfaces. It is environmentally friendly, non-toxic and contains no VOCs.
With the Bonding Agent, you can use Milk Paint on even more surfaces such as previously painted walls, varnished surfaces, ceramic tiles, metal, glass etc. Without the bonding agent, Milk Paint will resist some prefinished or prepainted surfaces to achieve an authentic “chippy” look. To avoid the chippy look a good clean and a light sanding will work great.

Milk paint comes in powder form and requires mixing with water. For a solid colour the mixing ratio is one part water and one part Milk Paint, for a stain add more water up to 3 parts, and for a thick textured paint add less. It’s different from the paint you may be used to and looks thin, but when applied has excellent coverage. When applied to raw wood the Milk Paint acts like a stain, soaking into the wood and bonding with it, never chipping or peeling and is excellent for outdoor projects. One quart of the Milk Paint will cover approx 70sq ft.

nce the paint is dry and the Milk Paint has done what Milk Paint does, you should have a few areas of loose paint chips ( unless you used the bonding agent for a solid non-chipping finish ).Sand or use a plastic scraping tool to loosen them and finish the project with a fine grit to smooth the finish. Miss Mustard Seed’s furniture wax is a smooth creamy consistency and glides on like a dream, it comes in clear, Antiquing and White.

The Tough Coat can be used for high traffic areas that need extra protection, but the best and most popular finish is Hemp Oil, this solvent free oil provides a protective water resistant surface, it penetrates the wood and protects from the inside out. As it penetrates it doesn’t leave a film on the surface to be scratched or chipped and it’s 100% natural. It’s food safe and is a perfect finish for kitchens, wood stone, and some metals too!
