Hemp Oil – Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint

    £11.95£19.95

A finishing oil perfect for milk paint or wood. This solvent-free oil finish provides a protective, water-resistant surface.  Use on new wood that is bare, stained Milk-painted or to revive old wood finishes. It penetrates to protect from the inside out.  Does not leave a surface film that will chip or scratch.  This food-safe oil finish is perfect for use in the kitchen on wood or stone.  Used outside, it can restore the luster of old oil based paint or revitalize surfaces such as cast iron.  Test on an inconspicuous spot prior to using on an entire piece

Surface must be clean and dry.  Apply a small amount of oil to the surface using a clean cloth or natural-bristle brush.  Rub gently until it is absorbed into raw wood or Milk Paint finish.  For additional sheen and protection, add 2-4 coats.  With no solvents, drying time is extended, so allow 2 hours between coats and wipe away excess after 12 hours.  Finished piece may take several days to cure.  To maintain, apply a light coat every other year as needed.  To remove scratches, lightly sand blemish, then reapply oil.

Covers approximately 25-40 sq feet.  Soap and water clean up

Mixing: Mix approximately 1 part water to 1 part milk paint powder with a blender (strictly used for paint), by shaking in a lidded container, by hand with a whisk or stir stick or with a motorized paint mixer. Add tepid water to container first, then add milk paint powder slowly and mix for 3-5 minutes. Paint a test swatch to make sure desired consistency has been achieved. If the paint is translucent or runny, it is too thin.  If it the brush drags and the paint appears gritty or chunky, it is too thick.  Add more water or powder accordingly and mix again.  Once satisfied with the color opacity and consistency, pour out paint into a wide mouth container. Apply paint evenly in long, smooth strokes with a brush or roller. Stir paint occasionally as pigments may settle at the bottom of the container. Drying time is approximately 30 minutes. Two to three coats may be necessary to achieve your desired coverage and possibly more when applying a light color over a dark surface. Lightly sand with a 220 grit sandpaper to smooth surface. Remove dust. A top coat is required to protect the paint and bring out the richness and depth of the color. We recommend MMS Hemp Oil for a 100% natural finish or MMS Furniture Wax for a hand-rubbed appearance. A polyurethane or varnish of your choosing may also be applied

  • Shutter Gray – Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint

    £19.95

Shutter Gray – Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint

A french blue grey, pale grey.

    Painting with Milk Paint.

Milk paint comes in powder form and requires mixing with water. For a solid colour the mixing ratio is one part water and one part Milk Paint, for a stain add more water up to 3 parts, and for a thick textured paint add less. It’s different from the paint you may be used to and looks thin, but when applied has excellent coverage. When applied to raw wood the Milk Paint acts like a stain, soaking into the wood and bonding with it, never chipping or peeling and is excellent for outdoor projects. One quart of the Milk Paint will cover approx 70sq ft
